The Observatory of Hollow Mirrors — Mind-Blowing Puzzle
They call it the Observatory of Hollow Mirrors. On a moonless night the dome opened and three metallic pulses echoed across the valley. A brittle map slipped from the telescope: three carved numbers, a stitched pentagon, and a copper watch with a few teeth burned away.
The map’s single sentence read: “Bind the pulses, unpick the faces, spin the hollow base, then hush the burned.”
Everyone who tried the map got stuck on the “spin the hollow base” step — and the observatory keeps its secret light on for those who fail.
The Puzzle
Clues found in the box:
- The three pulses: 14, 22, 30
- The stitched pentagon’s sides: 9, 12, 15, 18, 21
- The copper watch: 11 teeth with 3 burned teeth
Steps to find the key:
- Multiply the three pulses together → P
- Sum the five pentagon sides → T
- Compute N = P − T
- Convert N to base 9
- Rotate the base-9 digits left by 3 (the burned teeth count)
- Convert the rotated base-9 string back to base 10 → M
- Subtract the square of burned teeth count (3² = 9) → K = M − 9
- K is the four-digit key revealed below
